Athlete was drafted by the Cleveland Rockets, a professional basketball team in the Women’s National Basketball Association, WNBA. She later played for other teams, but never for any team in California. She played only one game in California, in 2003. She filed for Workers’ Compensation in California, alleging cumulative injuries, and was awarded disability indemnity. The appellate court annulled the decision because “California does not have a sufficient relationship with Johnson’s injuries to make the application of California’s workers’ compensation law reasonable. And California law has no obligation to apply the workers’ compensation law of any other state. Thus, as a matter of due process, California does not have the power to entertain Johnson’s claim.” (Federal Insurance Company v. Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (Adrienne Johnson) (Cal. App. Second Dist., Div. 5; December 3, 2013) 221 Cal.App.4th 1116.)
